Study Finds UK-Built Classic Cars on Brink of Extinction as Scrappage Rates Rise

The British car industry has a rich history of producing iconic and beloved models that have captured the hearts of car enthusiasts around the world. However, a recent study by specialist car insurance provider Adrian Flux has shed light on the alarming rate at which some of these once-popular cars are disappearing from the roads.

One such model facing extinction is the Vauxhall Frontera, Vauxhall’s first foray into the SUV market. Despite its attractive styling, the Frontera has been plagued by a reputation for poor build quality. Adrian Flux predicts that if current scrappage rates continue, the original Frontera will be extinct by the end of 2025.

Classic Rovers, including models like the 200, 400, and 75, as well as the iconic Metro, are also at risk of disappearing from UK streets. The Austin Rover Metro, introduced in 1980, was a popular choice among British drivers, but Adrian Flux warns that all examples may have vanished from the roads by 2031.

Even retro Jaguars, such as the X-Type, are not immune to the threat of extinction. Introduced in 2001 as Jaguar’s most affordable model, the X-Type gained a loyal following for its upmarket styling and pleasant driving experience. However, the increasing age of examples means that there may be none left on UK roads by the autumn of 2027.
